Season 4 finale, best ever? It was for me.
The season 4 finale ("There's No Place Like Home" - parts 2 & 3) was AWESOME!!! We got answers to some of the questions that were bothering us:
1) Will Desmond and Penny ever see each other again?
2) Who's in that coffin (from the season 3 finale)?
3) How'd Ben teleport to the desert?
4) How'd the Oceanic 6 come to be?
5) Will Michael ever die?
Did I miss any?
A happy ending for some...Yay! Penny finds Desmond, and what convenient timing. I hope they live happily ever after...but unlikely since Ben is looking for revenge. "You kill my daughter, now I kill yours!"
All year long, I've been guessing that Ben was in the coffin. Boy was I wrong! Didn't you think Locke was a bit out of character with his, "Watch me perform miracles..." attitude towards Jack? I was laughing along with my roommate during the scene in the greenhouse with Ben, Locke, and Jack because they made Jack look like a fool.
I thought that a significant part of this episode was seeing how Ben was able to teleport to the Sahara Desert. This act bridged a gap between the current and flash-forward scenes, something I don't recall ever seeing yet on this show. It'll be interesting to see how the writers will handle the shrinking margin of time they're left with to keep the show interesting (the flash-forward scenes this season were a breath of fresh air for the series, IMHO). Perhaps they'll start jumping even further into the future?
I'm assuming that Michael dies in the freighter explosion. The island sends a final message to Michael in the form of Christian, and allows Michael to finally die. Though I'm not buying into the idea that Jin is dead...I think he's still alive somehow, and will eventually be able to see his child.
I didn't think we'd see this until the final season (6), but it looks like the Oceanic 6 will be focusing on returning to the island next season. Jack has to find his half-sister and comply with Lockes wishes. Kate has the guilt of raising Claire's baby. Hurley is haunted by dead people (Charlie) that asks him to help those on the island. Sun probably believes Jin is still alive. Sayid? Ben says they'll all have to return together...what about Frank the pilot, Desmond, and Ben (the one who moves the island cannot return to the island)? What happened to the last bit of survivors on the little zodiac with Faraday? A ton of new questions and such a long time until next season starts up...
Movable Type 4.1

Interesting Finale. FYI...it really bothered me that they kept calling (Locke)him Jeremy Benthan. I am a History nerd and I recognized the name immediately. Jeremy Bentham was a philosopher in the 1700, who (when he died) had his body preserved to sit at the head table of the London College permanently. His head, which was decomposing, was replaced with a wax head!!! So maybe, Locke was not really Locke, but a wax replica. Read up on him. Makes an interesting possibility!
Great fantastic finale. I don't think they will go further into the future. I think we will see the people off the island stay in the present, and I think we will see the people still on the island in flashbacks to the past and see what happens from the time the island moved until Locke leaves it.
Hurley had 2 great comments
"Checkmate Mr. Eko"
"They are talking leader stuff" about Jack and Locke
I wrote a list of my thoughts about the episode at http://connectwithyourteens.blogspot.com/2008/05/lost-season-4-finale.html
if you are intersted
Michael is dead. It was in a TV guide article. But it does make me wonder about Jin because he might have survived. I have to admit this was one of the biggest rollercoaster endings I've ever seen. I was crying several times and yelling at the TV at the end. I can not wait for the next season.
