Jealousy killed the cat
The episode "Something Nice Back Home" revealed that Jack and Kate eventually end up with each other...for a short time at least. Jack finds out that Kate is still doing "favors" for Sawyer and messes up things a bit with his jealousy. How is Kate able to talk to the islanders via a standard wireless phone?
One of my theories proves true, when we find out that Sawyer chose to stay on the island. The island and its mysteriously positive effects on the human body is too much of a benefit for some. Who else chose to stay on the island?
Sawyer gets angry at Miles for staring at Claire...something tells me Miles wasn't looking at Claire, and was more interested in Aaron. Are the ship-people interested in Aaron as well as Ben? Remember how the fortune teller told Claire how she should be the only one to raise Aaron? This advice is further persisted when Hugo tells Jack that he should not be raising Aaron. I'm assuming that in Claire is still missing in the flash-forward scenes, after she wonders off with her (and Jack's) ghostly father. Again, I'll say that the series will probably slowly shift focus to Aaron the magical island baby.
Thanks to the reader named "Morgan" for posting the link to The Time Loop Theory. I like this theory as it works in parallel with what I've been thinking about the show. It even follows Doug's thought, of how the "dead" people we see are the smoke monster in disguise.

I'm not convinced Kate is speaking with any one on the island. How did you come to that conclusion?
Melcolm note: I'm believing Kate when she says she is communicating with Sawyer. Jack mentioned that Sawyer chose to stay on the island... I'm assuming that Sawyer is still on the island when Jack catches Kate on the phone.
