Ben, the dingo...

Did you find yourself rooting for Ben? This episode, "The Shape of Things to Come" perpetuates my thought of how this season revolves around Ben, and how he may be a "good guy". This week's show had the ingredients that made Ben look like a hero:

  1. Escaped capture/death from Tunisians, by using James Bond-like skillz.
  2. He had an accessible gun this whole time and could have blasted his way out of Locke's prison if he wanted to.
  3. Experienced a tragic event with the murder of Alex.
  4. Protected his "former" enemies from a greater nemesis, by using his special powers to summon a supernatural beast.
  5. Assisted a former enemy in avenging the death of his wife.

I believed Ben when he said he stole Alex as a baby. Somehow this possible-fact bends the father-daughter dynamic a bit, and aggravates the situation when he unintentionally allows Alex's murder to occur. He obviously did not believe Alex would be killed, because there were supposed to be some "rules" in place.

We find out that Mr.Widmore once had reign over the island, before Ben took over. Is there some sort of game between them? Ben keeps referring to "rules" that were broken/changed and it makes me wonder if it's some sort of game that's umpired by Jacob.

Penny gets pulled deeper into the Lost story by becoming Ben's next target. I can see a juicy Ben vs. Desmond story waiting to happen!

We also get more geeky time travel bits when we learn that the ship's doctor is found dead...but he might still be alive on the ship? A multiple universes or string theory explanation would support multiple instances of one person.
