MICHAEL'S IN THE COFFIN

You guys remember this?
It's the newspaper clipping of an obituary Jack ripped out of the April 5th, 2007 edition of the L.A. Times.
The article is about a man from N.Y.C who was found dead in L.A. He first notices it on a flight from Syndey to L.A. The guy in the paper seems to be someone both Kate and Jack know. Kate does not want to go to the funeral.
Here's why I think Michael's in the coffin. (I mentioned this before in one of our podcasts.)
1. The name in the obit is not Kevin Johnson but perhaps Michael made it off the freighter and is living again under an alias in L.A.
2. The guy in the article is suicidal, and we saw Michael is suicidal. Now, some of you (Doug) will claim the island won't let him kill himself, but maybe the island is done with Michael.
3. The funeral home looks like it's in an African-American neighberhood, and the funeral director is African-American. Not many other Black characters in the show.
4. Both Jack and Kate know the guy in the casket.
5. Jack doesn't consider the guy in the casket a friend and neither does Kate.
6. Producers of the show claim it's a character we've already seen.
7. Newspaper article claims the deceased is survived by a teenaged son. Could this be Walt?
8. Walt didn't go to the funeral. Maybe he still hates his father for killing those people.
9. The article states the deceased is from N.Y.
10. No one went to the funeral, probably because Michael betrayed them and blew their chances of getting off the island.
Just a theory. What do you guys think?

What a great theory from Henry!!! Finally, he posts something that doesn't "ruin it" for me. I have to say that this theory sounds better than my "It's Ben in the Coffin" theory.
when are the new episodes going to come out Travel Maldives Blog
I partially agree with your theory that Michael was the one in the coffin that was featured in the final episode of season 3. You strike up good points backing your theory that Michael is in the coffin. Your strongest point was when you mentioned the scene where Jack enters the parlor he is asked by the funeral director if he is friend or family and Jack replies with “neither.” That statement would apply to Michael because I don’t think Jack would consider him a friend for the reason that Michael had betrayed the group. My thought that it partially could not be Michael mainly for the reason that the producers generally stay away from the obvious and I can not think of a more obvious character than Michael. I also feel like the producers would think that and have it be Michael in the coffin just to throw off the watchers. In the last episode, “Meet Kevin Johnson,” you are lead to believe that Michael will die on the island or on the freighter which could throw off the fact that he is found in L.A., but since we know that Widmore and Ben are very dangerous and powerful men they could have had his body placed there. I have a theory that the funeral director will play a prominent role in future episodes because he seemed as if he knew who Jack was and was trying to hide the truth from him. My last theory is that is believed to be Michael’s body in the casket but he isn’t dead, either Widmore or Ben somehow planted that body and had others believe that was him or vice versa. Your insight on the newspaper clipping was riveting and I hope to read more of your future theories.
