On Thursdays, LOST is my "Constant" - Melcolm's EP4.5 thoughts
The whole business about finding a "constant" is all bunk to me, but I thought the episode was well written and infused enough sci-fi elements to keep me amused. It was like watching a chick-flick and a Twilight Zone episode all at once...did anybody count how many times the phrase "I love you" was said at the end?
Did anybody notice that Faraday's "device" (oscillating at 11Hz) output a beam of light that had the same purple/pink tinge we saw when Desmond imploded the hatch? Faraday hinted that Desmond's time/space confusion might be related to his exposure to radiation (most likely from the hatch implosion).
In the middle of the episode Faraday tells Desmond that the future cannot be changed. However at the end of the episode we learn that the future can indeed be changed (Faraday learns from his journal that Desmond is his constant from the past and present). I'm assuming this is why the freighters did not want anybody communicating with Desmond. With the ability to travel into the past, Desmond might be able to change the outcome of their mission. If we think hard enough (time travel logic can be quite confusing), we might get a clue as to why Faraday was so upset when viewing the footage of the plane wreck in his debut episode.
The Lawnmower man (Frank, the pilot) helps out Sayid and Desmond a lot in this episode. I don't get his character because everybody else from the freighter seems to have a great understanding of their "mission" and Frank is really stepping over the lines of being a loyal member of the anti-Ben group. I'm not even sure why he's even useful to the mission (other than he's a pilot with knowledge that the plane-wreck is a fake).
It was kind of neat to see the Blackrock items at the auction. We learn a little bit about the history of the ship, and how it was lost at sea. We also learn that the owner of the Blackrock auction items is a Mr.Hanso...
A blog-reader mentioned that the spy on the boat could be Michael...I think they're right. We know from interviews n' such that Michael and Walt would be returning this season, and it'd be the perfect way to return. If you remember, Michael was already doing dirty deeds for Ben before he left the island.
Movable Type 4.1

it kind of seems like there going into a more sci-fi direction, i'm thinking the island could be another dimension, because when desmond comes out of his future and back to oxford daniel says he was out for 75 minutes and desmond says he was only in the future for about 5 minutes. that would then pose that they have only been on the island for like 7 hours, hmm..
Kind of off-topic, but has anyone addressed Penelope/Penny being named after Odysseus' faithful wife in the Odyssey? God, I love this show!
