Eggtown and grenade sandwiches
I'm a bit late on my blog entry for episode 4.4 "Eggtown", I've already forgotten some of the items I wanted to talk about.
In this episode, we find out that Kate is probably not pregnant with Sawyer's baby...instead she ends up adopting Aaron (the magical island-born baby) somehow. The immediate thought after the final scene is, "What happens to Claire?". The writers might want us to think that Claire is dead, but I have a feeling that she doesn't die. In the flash forward scenes, I'm guessing she is one of the survivors that are still on the island (I know, it's a stretch).
Is Aaron considered part of the Oceanic 6? I'm guessing that he's not, since he was not on the Flight 815 manifest. This would leave us room for 2 more characters that make it off the island *grin*. It puzzles me greatly that Jack does not want to see Aaron. Perhaps it's because Jack feels at fault for separating Claire and Aaron. Don't forget that Jack and Claire are half-siblings, thus making Jack an uncle to Aaron. Why would Kate/Jack be in possession of Aaron? He is a magical baby (the only person successfully born on the island) that could possibly inherit special characteristics from the island...and Jack/Kate are his protectors?
Is it publicly known (in the flash-forward scenes) that Kate is not the natural mother of Aaron? It seems as this is unlikely, because Kate's mother was awfully interested in seeing her grandson. Wouldn't there have been a record of Kate being pregnant before the crash? For me, this appears it might be a big hole in the story.
Miles reveals that Ben has valuable knowledge and that he is able to "do" special things. Miles' effort to extort exactly $3.2 million from Ben might have seemed a bit puzzling, but we know that Miles has some sort of soft spot for taking too much money from the helpless (e.g. he gives a "rebate" to the elderly lady he helps in his debut episode). I think the writers had Ben asking why Miles didn't ask for more $$$, so that we'd get a sense that what Ben knows is worth a whole lot more than $3.2 million bucks.
I just hope that grenade doesn't go off in Miles' mouth. I want his character to at least survive the current season.
