Funeral theories?

I'm thinking the funeral was Locke (see evidence in comments from David) and Kate ends up with Sawyer.

What are your theories?

I think the porthole in that room is big enough for Charlie to swim through, so I'm not counting him as dead yet.

I think Jack's flash-forward is a big, fat red herring. In it, he refers twice to his drunken father -- does his dad magically come back to life somehow? Or was that put in there just to throw us off into thinking it was a flashback, up until the very last scene...?

It's very hard to say who the funeral was for because although Locke would seem like the obvious one, in the end I really doubt Locke is going to leave the island. He's a an island lifer that's for sure. If anything it's probably Michael because he betrayed them all so that's why no one wanted to go to his funeral, not even his own son.

Couple of things:

1. LOVED this episode.

2. Do you think it is Locke in the coffin because of the name "Jo..." in the obit or because the body was found in the courtyard? Are we back to when Locke was thrown out the window by his father out of the loft?

3. Ben is completely right... the new boat people are going to be bad. (of course)

4. When Jack and Kate meet at the end, and Kate tells Jack that she has to get back to "him". Do you think Kate was going back to "Sawyer" or her baby?

Love where this might go next year!

I'm thinking the funeral was Ben's because Jack said he wasn't family and he wasn't a friend.

Am I the only person who still watches "Lost"? If not, what do you make of the last scene in last night's season finale?

Doug note: it's the FUUUUUTTTTUUURRRREEEE! (spooky space sounds), and, yes, you are the only person that watches.

Ben warned Jack that if the lady gets the phone to work and help comes, everyone will die. The next 3 seasons will show the survivors dying one by one back home until they realize they have to get back to the island if they want to live. Someone already died. (Funeral scene). Jack's sick and knows he has to get back. I'm thinking it was Ben in the coffin. Locke would kill himself before he would leave the island. I'm thinking they brought Ben as a prisoner of some sort. Jack cried when he found out Ben died because he knew Ben could help him get back to the island. Yes, Jack's dad is still alive. He wasn't found in the coffin in the 1st season.

I am sorry to burst any bubbles, but Charlie isn't going to be alive next year. Watched an E!Tv interview with Dom and he said that he has known since Feb. that Charlie was going to die. He at the time of the interview, was finishing up the packing in Hawaii... moving to New York to work on a film and then back to LA. He said that he was ready to go. But I do love Charlie, and I am going to miss seeing his face on LOST he was one of my favorites. As for the funeral... who knows. I highly doubt it is Locke... and given the clues I have seen from the Obit, Jack showed Kate... it isn't going to be Ben either. I hate to say it... but I guess we will have to wait until next year! BOOOOOOOO!!!!

I suspect it to be Jacob in the coffin (i've mentioned before that i think Locke is Jacob)...after reading the "partially-deciphered" article...the name could start off as "Ja-" instead of "Jo-".

Jacob/Locke is forced off of the island because of a decision that Jack made (phone call to the ship). We all know Locke was paralyzed before the island...and when leaving the island he again loses the functionality of his legs. Jacob/Locke, kills himself when his life totally sucks in his powerless reality. This would explain why Jack feels tremendous guilt, enough to kill himself.

Does anybody think the coffin is a bit short? Perhaps he loses his legs somehow. I doubt if there was a kid in the coffin that nobody would show up.

I think the funeral was Ben's. He's the only one I can think that would cause the reactions we got of Kate and Jack. Jack is the only one that would feel a debt to him after they got off the island.

Don't know how to explain the name in the obit except he's used fake names before...

I don't think that the flash back thingy was a flash forward for a couple of reasons. One, Jack refers to his father ( once when he is trying to get pills he says he has a pescricption signed by his father and also makes a comment about is father being more drunk than he is). Two, if this is the future kate would be in jail or would have been sentanced to death because she has killed a few people and helped rob a bank. Three, at the oceanic website they say they are now bankrupt and are out of business so how could he have been taking trips on that airline with his "Golden Pass". Four, Jack is on drugs so we can't really trust what he said. What he said to Kate could have just been a drug induced fantasy and there are really no other references to any other survivers of the crash.

The funeral was for James (Sawyer). Not family or friend of Jack's but certainly someone he'd contact Kate over.

Ok,. A few things about LOST that I havent really seen elsewhere. First off, I'd say the surviviors all died in the crash, "we should not have survived the crash" has been something that has been said since the first episode and repeated more than a few times. Locke's father on the island further supports this, as does the disappearance of medical conditions, and the fast healing, not to mention the return of several "dead" "Others". Then throw in the white and black smoky entities that single out people to take, and the fact that reality on the island seems to be flexible to say the least, leaves it looking like a sort of purgatory, a waiting ground or a last chance for redemtion. This would also explain why the women cannot give birth to a child concieved on the island. Given the nature of the storyline, I'd even say that "LOST" is used more along the line of "lost souls". Lets face it, most of the surviviors have a shady background at best. Also when michael and walt left the island, Ben gave the order to go and retrieve the boat. What exactly happened to michael? My bet is that he is in the coffin. could they be facing the same fate as charlie? Waiting for fate to correct itself?

Just thought i'd post a couple of big answers:

the reason women can't giove birth on the island is because Bens mother died in childbirth, whatever defines your personality/ plays heavy on your mind tends to crop up on the island, because of the guilt of his mothers death no mothers can give birth now.

Smoke monster is designed to maintain a utopia by scanning peoples thoughts and wiping out anyone negative so as to preserve the island. If you watch back over episodes it appears whenever anyone is angry (kind of like the white bubble on the prisoner... only not...)

flas forward huh? i think it's a 'what if'.i'm not gagging for it to happen but jack & kate might end up together after she learned that he still loves her.it's all a 'what if' situation.about the coffin?it's ben!no visitors.ben grew up on the island and the others are dying one at a time.it has to be ben.

i think the flashback/forward has possibilities for future and past events, when jack says "why don't you get my father down here and see who's drunker" the doctor likes kinda pissed of as if his dads dead and he aint respecting the dead.

The person in the coffin had to be Ben because not friend or family. Also he knows that he should still be on the island so Jack has respect for Ben. No one else showed up to Ben's funeral because they are forcing themselves to believe that they were supposed to leave the island.

I watch the HD version of the episode and when he was going to the funeral and pulled out the news paper article it said "MAN FOUND DEAD IN DOWNTOWN" and thats all that i could read.
