More on Enter 77

Enjoyed it. Not as mind-bending as the Desmond episode (a high point of the season in my mind) but some really good stuff overall. Some impressions:

Locke, you're breaking my heart: For heaven's sake, if a computer told you to jump off a bridge, would you do it? Seems like he is still the patsy every time he interacts with a computer. I can understand his attempts to link to communication, but it seemed a bit much to just blindly key in every single number intoned by lab coat guy. Please, tell me there is something subliminal going on in these orientation films that is causing people to be so malleable.

And seriously, who walks away from the dangerous prisoner to play a computer game? We get one episode where Kate manages not to be used as a hostage, and now we've got Locke bumbling around instead.

Sayid's journey: As far as the flasbacks, I believe that Sayid was telling the truth to the woman when he apologized and said that he had been haunted by her face. If it does turn out that he was not her interrogator, my take would be that he apologized to her in recognition of the pain that he caused so many others that are not in a position to confront him.

I think the real point of the flashback is to show Sayid's movement toward attempting to change his ways, toward a sort of redemption.

It seemed in the early days on the island that many of the Lostaways were seizing the chance to have a clean slate and to not be the same people they were before the crash. But ultimately, each drifted back to the type of the behavior shown in the flashbacks -- Sayid would hurt people to get results, Sawyer ran cons and on and on.

In this episode, we see Sayid as unwilling to kill someone who is a threat and not really "needed" by the group, because he no longer wants to be the person who commits such terrible acts. So, perhaps, people can change in significant ways -- and thus change the world? (Getting back to popular Lost themes toying with fate, predestination and free will.)

Patch Guy and his cohort: I was a little disappointed with these characters. They are apparently willing to die for the cause (whatever that is exactly) and that's about it. I think I was expecting Patch Guy to be higher on the food chain than he appears to be, but maybe that is coming.

I think the big reveal is supposed to be that the Others aren't Dharma, but with all the hints that direction, it didn't seem to be that big of a shocker to me overall. Maybe I'm just not giving the situation enough time to develop.

Isn't it amazing that Locke has basically been responsible for the destruction of two hatches now: The Swan and now the Flame. He doesn't want to leave the island - he has expressed that, so maybe he is thwarting any possibility that there can be contact with the outside world.

and by God, I really want them to circle back to those guys and Penny from Season 2 saying they had loacted him (Desmond).....when, oh when, will they come back to this? I can't take it anymore!

Maybe Locke's mission on the island is to destory all the hatches. Its getting old, but its better then developing new characters.

I'm torn on Locke. Part of me loves his newfound lease on life and his desire to stay put and stay mobile and not return to the real world and his wheelchair. The other part is getting really tired of Locke and his fixation on doing everything a computer tells him. He is one of my favortie characters. Locke The Wise has provided many great moments. I just don't want them to take him down a path where he is ultimately responsible for the Losties NEVER getting off the island.
