New Persephone message

Commenter Paul brings to my attention that there's a new coded message up on the persephone.thehansofoundation.org page. It is:

Translated into ASCII characters, that says:

HAS WIN HOST PC IN NIL URGE.
8, not 1 and 6.

The first part looks like a word scramble to me. The second part seems to refer to the May 1 vs. May 6 vs. May 8 controversy.

Any good anagramists out there?

Could it be persephone was referring to the dating controversy:

LOGIN HUNCH WAS INEPT SIR. 8, not 1 and 6.

HAS WIN HOST PC IN NIL URGE is also an anagram for CHRISTIAN HELPING US NOW.

Then again, it's also an anagram for A CIPHERING LUSH WINS NOT. So don't drink and decode, kids.

A CIPHERING HINT SLOW SUN (or LOW SUNS)?

thehansofoundation.org is served by a Windows host pc. Not sure about IN NIL URGE though. If it was an anagram why would persephone put spaces for word breaks? Why not, though? ;-)

How to solve the first one:

Make it ASCII
Now use ROT- 3 for VOWELS ONLY

Replace vowels only and get the following:

Reverse letters now

Actually, thehansofoundation.org as of May 7, 2006 is a Red Hat Linux Server with Apache. Typing in a URL at thf.org sure to return a 404, /gigglesmcmiggle, returns

Went to an anagram site and got this:

I don't think it is right, but entertaining none the less!

These anagrams are cracking me up. My favorite so far (that I saw posted on another forum) is "LOGIN WHEN IT RAINS PUSH C"

I think it may be something to do with WIN LOST CASH; the best I've come up with (including the lower case not + and) is WIN LOST CASH, RING HAUNTED PIN No. 681. The UK phone number for THF didn't give the breaking strain password on any of the 5 extensions, I've only just heard this for the first time by entering 681! Is this just the start of the game?

You're right, Dizzy - guess I assumed it was Windows since it has an MS SQL Server port open. It's very possible that web traffic is routed to a Linux Server, while some other traffic is served from Windows. Probably a dead-end investigation though.

Also check out GDC who apparently folded years ago, but guess what - they also supplied the Hanso Foundation...

Having established that the second numbered message on the Persephone site was indicating that we should be checking back on the site on May 8, nothing seems to have changed. Being in Australia we have the benefit of being several hours in front of the other countries involved, but I don't think that there is anything written into the flash code so far that will update when it clicks over to May 8. Maybe we're waiting for the site to be manually updated and have to wait for the rest of the world to wake up?

Also, pretty sure that the monster.com stuff is not relevant. It features in the Hanso foundation phone message here too, even though Monster launched and failed in Australia some years ago. I'd suggest it was simply an opportunity for some advertising.

It's interesting that thf.org leads to the Dreyfus foundation. Having done some initial research, he seems like a remarkable, if not slightly wacky, character. Amazon has two books of his with a "look inside" feature. Both have the same opening, which is a weird exchange of letters between an angel and Dreyfus' dead mother. Talks about how he was blessed by God or some such thing to find a cure for endogenous depression. May tie in to the Mental Health area of the Hanso site?

On a completely different tangent... anyone know something about scientology? Is it possible that the makers of this are hoodwinking us in some way and the end of the show will explain that the characters all came from Xenu? Maybe the others are the aliens...

Not being a crytologist by any means, I can't say if the anagrams are correct or not. However in looking at what they come up with, I can see that it could possibly read "Hanso Twins" if you rearrange the first 3 words as stated in Doug's post. What if Alvar Hanso was a twin/clone? And that perhaps the original twin Alvar was replaced by another twin/clone who had mutated into something more evil or bad?

I also noticed that the Institute for Genomic Advancement on the Hanso webpage has two pictures of genes: one a mutant, thus "bad" gene and one a normal, thus "good" gene.

Funny thing is is that the mutant gene looks alot like that funny shaped picture you find hidden on Joop's corner- the one that is irregularly shaped and eventually has circles that you click on until that final red circle shows up. The little "bolts" of energy or lines that run from one circle to another upi see on that page reminds me a lot of a brain synapses as thoughts, feelings etc. are conveyed from one brain cell to another in order for the brain to function.

could it be that we sign in with "miracle" on the 8th?

"8, not 1 and 6" may be a key for decoding the message. For instance, try reordering the letters, getting every 8th one, but not the 1st and 6st ones... I haven't tried it yet, but that's an idea.

I just sent an email to enrico from the valenzetti site and asked if caroline was a.k.a persephone and the reply i got was 'Così spiacente!
