New Persephone message

Reader Larry points out a new code on the persephone.thehansofoundation.org page. Let's get translating!

Oh, and we've heard from several people that "The Mouth Piece" password isn't working for them. This happened to Doug, too, and to my husband. Not sure what the deal is with that, but if anyone has any tips for making it work, post a comment. It worked right away for me.

Try typing "the mouthpiece" and hit enter. It works for me!

I'm trying the ASCII code for persephone's message. No luck. It's just symbols and gibberish. What now?

Suggestions I've received: Try base 32, base 64, UTF-7, UTF-8 or UTF-16. Anyone good at this numbers thing?

It's solved, thanks to psytor.

The "g==" actually ends up being a coding error for "s" which makes the anagram:

"a mouse does not rely on just one hole"

Which is a phrase that's come up before, according to psytor, on the blast door map.

Yeah, seen that translation elsewhere but I don't see that phrase on the blast door anywhere.

Also, since the above translation relies on changing a letter to get it to work, you can also change a couple more and get "Just tell me you are one of the good ones" which relates to the recent clue. Not sure either is actually correct, though.

To get "the mouth piece" password to work, I had to make sure I was logged in (by typing the "breakingstrain" pass into the newsletter sign-up). You can tell if you're logged in or not by whether the date under Alvar Hanso's picture (October 28, 2003) is underlined in the bios section. If it is, you're logged in, and "the mouth piece" should work.

At least, this is what worked for me.

Hey Guys
If you reset your browser cache and start from the beginning then the password works

Re: decoding persephone's message... tried the decoding site recommended on the http://www.4815162342.com/forum with no result. Now that we know what that it's ""a mouse does not rely on just one hole" can someone 'splain how they got it?

yea my friend typed it in 3 times and them im like "let my try" and it worked.. weird lol, jus keep trying.

make sure its lower case. that was my problem

"Now that we know what that it's ""a mouse does not rely on just one hole" can someone 'splain how they got it?"

Erm, did you read the linked thread? It explains the process. The perseph numbers needed to be translatred into base64, which then was an anagram. But apparently because of some sort of coding error, the result had a "g" where it needed an "s".

"a mouse does not rely on just one hole", eh? This quote is attributable to the ancient Roman playright Titus Maccius Plautus,(205 BCE-184 BCE) whose comedies and other plays influenced the works of Shakespeare and others for centuries after his death. This quote is seen also on the blast door map and perhaps it is a reminder that it is/are probably more than one way out of the hatch or hatches. One just needs to look for them.

With "the mouthpiece" not working:
I've gotten it to work, however, funky stuff keeps happening at the Hanso website: not game stuff, but things like the music staying on even after I've left the site, and "afterimages" like seeing the intro girl on the compass, or both the "waiting room" hanso soothing music playing at the same time as Persephone's creepy tone.
Considering that I'm on a pretty good connection, no viruses, etc.I think it's just a matter of the Flash that the site is written in being somewhat incompatable with my ISP (it's happened before)
So, I wonder if people having problems might not be similar problems with flash?

Where can I learn more about these....ciphers?....people are using to translate code. I've found info on ASCII but base32? Never heard of it. I can't find a table to help me translate. Thanks.......and Namaste.
