Back to the game...

Fig. 42: Lymon in Maui
Today, Ellen and I were discussing the game so far and what we've discovered. I think it's time to vent.

(Read this next part with a tinge of our frustration)

OK. We get it. We get that everyone at Hanso is a bad guy. We get that. Did we mention that we get it?

We're ready to move on.

We dig the execution of the game, but we're ready for it to get a little deeper.

We're also ready to get knocked off our seats with a huge discovery that doesn't come on a Wednesday.

We love the crazy comments, theories and postings you guys are feeding us. We wish the game was living up to the creativity you all are putting into playing it.

What do you guys think? Are you feeling the same?

Very much so. It's been fun so far but it's also been very mechanical. Every update follows similar patterns. Persephone drops a code, it's translated and we wait for more. Then the Hanso site is updated we follow the clues to the password and type it in and sit back and watch a "movie".

Hopefully with the Hugh thing on Kimmel and the fact the show is now over, thing's will start moving in a new direction and we will get more randomness and more exciting and interactive information.

OK I am frustrated too. I like the game and finding clues is cool, BUT I was thinking the game was about LOST, the TV show. When are we going to get some clues about that not just the Hanso site?
The game is called LOST EXPERIENCE, not THE HANSO EXPERIENCE!

I agree—and not because I've been wrong about nearly every prediction I've made in this game. ( Humph.) While it's been cool to learn about ASCII codes and stuff, I'm hoping that game brings in more research/ literary/philosophical based puzzles. And even broad clues based on info from the show ( i.e I'm pretty sure I know what that giant 4-toed foot is—and how it fits into the Hanso Foundation's larger goals).

I agree wholeheartedly. I would love for the game to shake things up a bit. I'm tired to playing anagram games...how about some new phone numbers! To me, that's been the best part of the game so far. (By the way, your Lymon dude rocks!)

Agreed -- I think they have made a couple big misses this week.

1) Hanso interview on Kimmel -- what a let down. Poorly executed and seemed out of game with all the discussion about lost the series.

2) Season finale folks! Duhh!! They had a great opportunity to sneak in a couple good hints (I dunno, like maybe something about the incident in the hatch) days before the show. Would have been a huge payoff for ARG players.

Check out sublymonal.com and type in persephone and then 108

But, what do we know?
We know the persephone claims that Hanso is full of crooks, but we don't know that they are crooks.
We know that persephone is related in some way to Hanso, but we don't know how. Etc. At this point, there's no "game", only some easter eggs all pointing in the same direction: that folks don't like the Hanso people. Big deal, but I'm fairly patient. I'll get interested when something HAPPENS: a turn, a twist, a plot, perhaps?

I agree as well. So far this those whole "game" has been nothing more than shameless corporate sponsorship connected to an increasingly popular television show. To put this another way, this is all just the "neo-commercial" or "rentertainment". Let me explain:

Fans (read: consumers) are now being basically forced to sit through commercials on TV and the web just to get to these so called "clues" for the ARG. This is the anti-TIVO movement of mass media, they know we are using technology to bypass advertisers so now the adverisers are simply baiting us with content related to the shows we enjoy. Sprite, Jeep, Nike, etc are just cashing in on LOST fans. The scary thing is William Gibson wrote about this in 'Pattern Recognition" and now it is really happening! Seriously, this all seems to be a waste of time if all it boils down to is way for companies to cash in on LOST fans and their tenacious desire to "figure out" the mystery in the show.

Here is my final question to everyone:

What makes you feel that the creators of LOST and this ARG have an actual story arc that can support this much scrutiny? Is it not possible that they are simply making it up as they go along? If that is the case, how is ANYONE going to ever figure out ANYTHING if the creators themselves don't know?

I sometimes get the feeling that they too read all the forums and blogs and then simply choose the theory that they like the best for that weeks episode...so in effect, WE are creating LOST not them...think about it!!!
